Well this was an interesting week for us. We were tasked with retrieving a magic red emerald from some rich survivalist punk. Didn’t seem too hard in theory, but of course it’s never actually that easy, now is it?
I’ll start from the beginning. So first we get this notification from Isabel to go meet at some fancy-ass restaurant for our next mission. Not really my first choice for a meeting spot, but OK fine. Anyway, we get our assignment and shortly after leaving start doing some prep. Our assignment was to steal this emerald from some rich tv show survivalist dude, Randy Dangerfield or something like that. Oh, and also make fun of him I guess. Whatever, didn’t really care that much about him. I just know that we decideded it would be good to do some checking into his camera crew and see why some went missing on his shoots, and also do some recon on the vault we were going to steal the emerald from. God damn I must have spent like 15+ hours over the course of 2 fricking days digging for any kind of dirt we could find on those camera crew lackeys and floor plans for the vault, and what did I get for it? Jack shit, that’s what. Oh sure, I found a few leads some of which were bad (botched some addresses, I was tired damnit), and the only floor plans I found were from 3 years ago, though I didn’t know it at the time. Ugh, hopefully next time I’ll have a bit more luck in finding actual useful information.
Thankfully, reconning the matrix around the hotel proved a lot more useful. I got a layout of the whole place, including the area leading into the vault and the fact that it was only guarded by one guy. I also blew up a bathtub so Swiffer could “learn” about the vault, but of course about the most useful information out of that interaction was that I supported some random mechanic by giving him a reason to perform his job.
OK, so recon done now time to start the run. Things go smoothly at first. Swiffer, Punch, and Fuse manage to get into the kitchen no prob. I hack one of the cameras so Fuse could change back into her dog form, she causes chaos in the kitchen, and Swiffer and Punch sneak to the vault. Great so far, but now here’s where the problems start happening. First, I try to hack the camera right outside the vault entrance and botch that because I made the mistake of trying to masquerade as admin when I forgot to actually give myself admin permissions. So that happens, an alarm goes off, and I see a decker (presumably the guy hired to run security) immediately come at me. By this point, Swiffer and Punch are ready to go so I panic and hit the vault door so it opens, text Hardcase and jack out. Of course I get hit before I jack out though by a pretty nasty attack so my deck gets a little burned in the process.
I figure that everyone else can take care of things for now since our cover’s blown anyway, so I start on repairing my deck and wait to see if any other requests for help come in. Well, one does so I jack in again only to find shit happening everywhere, and evidently the rest of the team is in trouble. I take out a couple drones to do my part, and see shortly after that police and shit are all in the building arresting everyone. So I jack out and nope the hell out of there wondering what I’m gonna do come morning.
Well, even though shit pretty much hit the fan, we were in luck apparently. Some other Johnson comes by and bails out Fuse, Hardcase and Punch from jail, and Hardcase proceeds to call me and tell me we’re meeting somewhere else. Goddamn. I tell him I’ll head over, but given the location just wait outside until he tells me it’s clear. It is, I stroll in and find out we need to go raid the other shadowrun team that double-crossed us last night.
Once we get over to the other warehouse where that team is staked out, we basically take it over no problem. I hack/data spike the drones flying around (hehehe the rigger controlling them was pissed at me!) and everyone else just nails all the rest of the runners in the warehouse. Fuse even took a big bite out of one of ‘em, looks like she nearly killed him in doing so. But, and here’s the kicker, they literally knocked out every single runner cold. Which means that we couldn’t interrogate them for where the emerald was. Sigh I manage to save the day though by breaking into the rigger’s commlink and getting the location. Twats.
Anyway, guess this run was closer to an interview of some kind, since now we’re apparently working for this Drakadia corp. I don’t really mind, so long as the pay’s good. Guess we’ll just have to see how things pan out at this point. Should be fun :P
