Founded in 2063 in a joint partnership between the Astral Space Preservation Society and the Dunkelzahn Institute for Magical Research, Drakadia was a non-profit organization dedicated to the investigation, acquisition, and research of magical artifacts. It originally consisted of a small research team and a legal firm, using loopholes in corporate and property law to legally obtain artifacts. After a particularly disastrous astral rift opened on Wuxing territory in India, an endowment from the Draco Foundation (signed off by the ASPS) greatly expanded Drakadia’s operations and acquisition techniques, including use and retention of Shadowrunners.
In 2070, a series of incidents forced Drakadia to relocate its operations to mainland Asia, and restructured until the new name, Xilonba. As part of the restructure, the ASPS further expanded Xilonba’s mission to include the acquisition of exotic weaponry and matrix technology. Officially, this was to address damage to astral space caused by major crises, such as the 2nd Matrix Crash, which often leave permanent background counts at the site of disasters. However, many believe that the new wireless matrix and the growing parallels between technomancy and magic are causing the ASPS to treat the Matrix, particularly the Resonance Realms, as an extension of Astral Space itself, looking far ahead of popular magical theory today.
